The Potsdam/Berlin area offers a vast cutural variety of historic and modern architectural sites, museums, concerts, and festivals. The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites in the region are one of the cututral points of interest to start with.
From June 2 to June 18 the Musical Festival Potsdam Sanssouci takes place in Potsdam's castels and gardens, to name just one event at the time of the conference.
Beside the chance for extensive sightseeing, Berlin offers culture for every taste. Only a few days prior to the conference, the Carnival of Cultures parades through Berlin. Attracting some 1.4 million people in 2004, it has developed into one of the important cultural events of the city.

Following the conference, a technical tour to Leipzig and Dresden will not only feature technical highlights, as one of the largest wind turbines in the world, a high efficiency lignite power plant and the European Energy Exchange (EEX), but also cultural highlights in Leiptig and Dresden and in the region south of Potsdam/Berlin.
Last but not least, there is of course the FIFA World Cup. From 9 June to 9 July 2006, Germany is the host of this event with matches taking place in cities all over the country.
